A lot about Charlotte - The international quiz with questions around Queen Charlotte, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany and Mecklenburg County/USA on the occasion of the Sophie-Charlotte Year 2011
2011 will not only be the year of Prince William´s wedding. It will also be the year of the 250th anniversary of the coronation of his Mecklenburg ancestor, Princess Sophie Charlotte, The Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, to be Queen of Great Britain. To celebrate the occasion the year 2011 will be "Queen-Charlotte-Year" under the patronage of Henry Tesch, Minister of Education, Science and Culture of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
As a reminder, the duchess Sophie Charlotte was a Mecklenburg princess. She was born on 19 May 1744 in the castle of Mirow. On 8 September 1761 she married the English King George III, the coronation of the couple followed on 22 September 1761. Hence, the Mecklenburg princess Sophie Charlotte became the British Queen Charlotte. She was remaining in office for the following 57 years until her death in 1818. During her reign she belonged to the most powerful women of the entire world.
The jubilee will be honored with several celebrations this year. Moreover, it will give you the chance to test yourselves with regard to your personal knowledge of the queen, her time and Mecklenburg then and now. Therefore, in the quiz there will be 8 questions each in 5 categories: "History of the 18th and 19th centuries", "King and Queen", "Mecklenburg, Germany", "Mecklenburg County, North Carolina" and "Culture and more Zeitgeist" to be answered. It is a multiple-choice test with only ONE correct answer in each question.
The quiz will be officially launched on 4 February 2011 at the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Minister Tesch will give the starting shot of the test-your-own-knowledge quiz.
Everyone interested in the worldwide online quiz, which is in German and English, can participate until 31 May 2011.
Great prizes promised! Among others there will be flight tickets for two persons to Charlotte, NC, USA, one iPad, iPod, shopping vouchers worth more than 1,000 € in total and many more.
