In 1994 two staff members of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA –
another town named after Queen Charlotte – compiled this Exhibition in honour of the Queen's 250th birthday. Two sets of 30 pictures show scenes, monuments and personages of Queen Charlotte's life and time.
Angelika S. Powell, one of the two organizers in Virginia, is a native of Mecklenburg in Germany. The other, Jean L. Cooper, developed a digital edition with the pictures and texts of the Exhibit, including the sources and the bibliography.
This exibit also contains excerpts from 440 of Queen Charlotte's surviving letters, addressed to her favorite brother, Grand Duke Charles II of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, which are kept in the
>>Mecklenburgisches Landeshauptarchiv
in Schwerin, Germany. The former director of the archive, Werner K. Sensbach, translated these excerpts from their original language, French, into English and German.
